Spring Flower Identification Walk - by Kate Gardner
Let me introduce myself – I’m Kate Gardner, one of the Trustees of Clophill Heritage Trust, Spotlight gardening writer and lover of wild plants and flowers. I was lucky to grow up in the Bedfordshire countryside with Grandparents who knew lots about the wild plants and their various medicinal and edible uses, so whenever we went out on a walk they were forever telling me about the plants that we came across.
Now is a good time to be spotting lots of our native plants as they start to spring into life and as we are limited currently to only exercising in our local area, I thought it would be a good time to pass on some of that knowledge to you.
Over the next few weeks I will be compiling a number of these sheets which you can take with you on your walks around the village. All of these plants are growing within a mile of Clophill Old Church so enjoy spotting them on your walks.
There are also a range of Discovery walks around the village of Clophill the range in length from a mile to 8 miles. Click on the image below to download the route.
The famous Greensand Ridge Walk is split into 5 stages - you can download them all here:
